Why we started
Most collector coins are sold by the pound of hype: flashy boxes, giant mintages, a new one every week. We wanted the opposite. A few pieces, struck properly, finished by hand, in editions small enough to mean something, at a price a person can pay for themselves without a story attached.
What we make
The Navigator Series is three medallions about the way people found their way before satellites: the compass rose, the moon and its tides, the astrolabe. Bronze for the first, silver for the second, silver and gold for the third. Each is struck in deep relief from engraved dies, patinated or oxidised, then relieved and polished by hand.
How we think about editions
An edition is a promise. 750, 500 and 250 are the numbers, they are printed on the edge of every piece, and when the last one goes the dies are retired. We would rather sell out and stop than keep a die alive because it is profitable.
How we think about price
The Compass Rose at $77, The Moon Tide at $120, The Astrolabe at $134. There is no sale calendar, no bundle, no coupon in a pop-up. The price you see is the price, and shipping is free on every order.
Where the name comes from
A lodestar is the star you steer by, the one that does not move while everything else does. It seemed like the right name for objects meant to be kept.
